FASHION INNOVATOR: MIT Technology Review Italy, the Italian edition of the bimonthly Massachusetts Institute of Technology Review, has recognized Italian eyewear and lifestyle company Italia Independent Group as one of the country’s top 10 most innovative firms in the “smart and disruptive” category.
Italia Independent chief executive officer and cofounder Andrea Tessitore received an award from the president of the magazine’s scientific committee, politician Romano Prodi, at a dinner held in Bologna on Sunday in celebration of the Italian publication’s 25th anniversary.
The MIT Technology Review credited Italia Independent with developing cutting-edge treatments for eyewear, such as UV Lux, which was previously used in the automotive industry and gives glasses frames a velvety look, and I-Thermic, which allows eyewear to change color in high temperatures.
Tessitore founded Italia Independent Group in 2006 with Lapo Elkann, who is the company’s president.
