FASHION ELITE: Michael Kors; Jay-Z; Jenna Lyons, president and executive creative director of J. Crew Group, and Tadashi Yanai, chief executive officer of Uniqlo parent Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., are the figures from the fashion industry who made the 2013 Time 100, the magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Others on the list include President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, the Duchess of Cambridge, Beyoncé Knowles, Sheryl Sandberg, Jennifer Lawrence, Vice President Joe Biden, Jimmy Fallon, Lena Dunham, Marissa Mayer, Steven Spielberg and Elena Kagan.
The 100 influential individuals will be honored at a dinner at Jazz at Lincoln Center on Tuesday.
“I’m deeply honored to be named to the Time 100,” said Kors, who is listed under the Titans category. “The people who make up this list each year include artists, leaders and visionaries whom I greatly admire. To be in such company is incredible.”
In the issue, Kors’ story is penned by fellow “Project Runway” judge and fashion designer Zac Posen. “When I started designing fashion in high school, around 1996, Michael Kors was the epitome of the new look of American sportswear: elegant luxury, easy glamour and effortless chic…,” writes Posen. “Nearly two decades later, Michael is poised to become fashion’s next billionaire. It takes a great deal of resilience and staying power to last for decades, and it’s a testament to Michael’s very clear vision.”
