EPIC RESTORATION: Fifty years after Elizabeth Taylor incarnated the sexy Egyptian queen Cleopatra in dripping gold headdresses, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has restored the 243-minute epic, with Jessica Chastain presenting the movie at the May 21 Cannes Film Festival premiere. Taylor’s son Chris Wilding and Kate Burton, daughter of Richard Burton, will join other relatives of the late actors for the screening.
Following the premiere, Bulgari is hosting a reception with some of Taylor’s most precious jewels on display. The exhibit will include original costumes on loan from Rome’s Studi di Cinecittà and a Bulgari gold and turquoise mirror Taylor received as a gift during the filming of “Cleopatra.”
In addition, Bulgari will present an exclusive jewel inspired by Taylor and the movie, which will be auctioned this year to benefit the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF), founded by the actress in 1991 to raise awareness of the disease and help those suffering from it. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will also make a donation to ETAF.
Bulgari is offering top international clients a special edition Blu-ray with rare photos of film stars in Bulgari jewels. Starting May 28, the restored “Cleopatra” will be available in digital high definition exclusively on iTunes, while a Blu-ray double disc with special contents will be on sale only on Amazon starting June 7. A limited number of movie theaters worldwide will also feature the restored “Cleopatra” starting May 22.
