DREW’S EDITORIAL DEBUT: Fashion-focused Web site Refinery29 has tapped Drew Barrymore as its first celebrity editor at large. In the new role, Barrymore will contribute at least one blog post a month. Her first, which is titled “The Drew Barrymore Breakfast Sandwich You’ll Want Every Morning,” goes live today. In essence, the post covers the actress’ trials and tribulations of learning how to cook, and it gives a recipe to one of her favorite concoctions.
“When Refinery asked me to come on board, I thought, ‘How fun,’” Barrymore told WWD. “I respect their taste. I trust them. I like ‘where to’ and ‘how to lists’ best and just the fun lifestyle direction and they completely have that.”
When asked what readers can expect from her work, the actress said she wanted to provide readers with “succinct” yet “meaningful” info on subjects such as the “top 10 toddler books” she’s read while raising her daughter.
“I also wanted to write some fun op-ed pieces,” she said without letting on what exactly she has in the works.
But there’s one thing readers shouldn’t expect, namely stories on being “fabulous.”
“I’m so un-fabulous and not whimsical. I make one-pot meals,” she said. “I don’t remember the last time I threw a dinner party and I certainly didn’t cook for it when I did.”
That honesty and quirkiness is what attracted Refinery29 to Barrymore, according to the blog’s editor in chief Christene Barberich.
“Drew possesses so many genuine qualities that connect to us and our audience: She’s smart, funny, confident, stylish, a natural-born entrepreneur with an artist’s spirit....The list goes on,” Barberich said, offering that she “exemplifies” the Refinery29 woman, namely someone who’s an “ambitious, curious, infinitely cool woman living a creative life right now.”
Barrymore’s editorial stint will last at least two years with the option for an extension of the partnership.
