GOLD RUSH: Parfums Christian Dior on Sunday night unveiled a new advertisement for its J’Adore fragrance on its Web site www.dior.com and French television channel TF1 following a print-ad buildup worthy of a blockbuster. Then again, the spot features not only Charlize Theron, the face of the fragrance, but also digital recreations of the late Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe. Directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud and set in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles, it shows Theron rushing backstage to prep for a catwalk show before parading below rows of gilded chandeliers to the track “Heavy Cross” by The Gossip. Disgraced former Dior designer John Galliano served as artistic director of the first TV and print campaigns starring Theron, which broke in 2004.
