DEVI’S DESIGNS: Devi Kroell’s fall ad campaign bears the graphic signature of Danko Steiner, a photographer and graphic designer who studied in Zagreb, Croatia. Steiner’s images often feature women in odd positions — models resting their heads lifelessly on furniture or with their legs splayed aggressively on sofas and chairs. For Devi Kroell, Steiner arranged model Caroline Brasch Nielsen in a modern steel chaise longue. She has one foot on the chair to highlight Kroell’s zebra mid boot and is holding the zebra Beluga clutch in her left hand. Kroell wanted the campaign to showcase its fine skins without relying on a logo. With the chair centered on a red floor in a room with purple walls, the ad was inspired by Francis Bacon’s “Portrait of George Dyer Talking,” a painting of Bacon’s lover who committed suicide in 1971. Steiner has shot Kroell’s ad campaign for four seasons.
