CONTINENTAL DRIFT: Godfrey Deeny, who is heading to Edinburgh to attend Chanel’s pre-fall métiers d’art show on Tuesday, will be wearing a new hat at the event: editor at large for women’s fashion at Le Figaro. The veteran journalist is joining the French daily to write features and “cover collections worldwide with a Parisian eye,” he explained.
At Le Figaro, he reports to Anne-Sophie Von Claer and takes up many of the responsibilities previously held by high-profile critic Virginie Mouzat, who recently left after a 15-year career to join the forthcoming French version of Vanity Fair as editor in chief overseeing fashion, lifestyle and feature stories.
Deeny said he would continue as editor in chief of German magazines Achtung and Sepp, but would wind down his work for Fashion Wire Daily and Financial Times. Deeny’s résumé includes stints as editor in chief of Vogue Hommes International and Paris bureau chief for WWD. He has also been a Milan-based correspondent for Dow Jones.
