LONDON — Italy’s Chi magazine published images today of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both clad in bathing suits, on holiday on the Carribean island of Mustique — and St. James’ Palace is not pleased.
“We are disappointed that photographs of the Duke and Duchess on a private holiday look likely to be published overseas,” a Palace spokesperson said in a statement last night before the publication. “This is a clear breach of the couple’s right to privacy.”
The images from the weekly gossip title show William and Kate, who is pregnant with their first child and is due in July, walking along the beach with their arms around each other. She is wearing a blue bikini — her bump is barely visible — and he is wearing blue swimming trunks with a white stripe down the side. Another image shows Kate strolling through knee-deep water on the beach.
In September, the French celebrity magazine Closer published topless photos of Kate while the royal couple was undertaking a Diamond Jubilee tour in Southeast Asia on behalf of Queen Elizabeth. The photos had been taken while the young royals were on holiday in the south of France last summer, and the couple later took legal action against that magazine, which like Chi, is published by Mondadori.
