CUT TO THE BUZZ: BuzzFeed editor in chief Ben Smith has poached Amy Odell from New York Magazine’s The Cut blog.
Odell will start at BuzzFeed at the end of the month and run a vertical geared toward women. Smith, Odell and BuzzFeed executive editor Doree Shafrir are still figuring out what exactly the vertical will be (“She’s running a details-to-come vertical,” Smith told WWD), but it is expected to launch sometime in March. There will be some fashion coverage, though the goal is to create a vertical that’s more expansive than The Cut.
“There will be a fashion and style component to it, but that won’t be the whole thing,” said Odell. “It will very much be my voice and my sensibility.”
She said she will have a small staff working with her on the vertical. Odell has been writing and editing for The Cut for the last four years, and she will stay at the magazine for the next two weeks.
