BURBERRY ONSTAGE: Burberry is partnering with London’s Evening Standard newspaper to host the publication’s 58th annual Theater Awards, which take place at London’s Savoy Hotel Nov. 25.
The awards will be cohosted by the Evening Standard’s chairman and owner, Evgeny Lebedev, together with Christopher Bailey, chief creative officer at Burberry and Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor in chief. Wintour has an existing connection with the paper — her late father, Charles Wintour, was a former editor of the Evening Standard.
To mark Burberry’s involvement in the awards, a new category has been introduced, called the Burberry Award for Emerging Director. That award will stand alongside categories such as the Lebedev Special Award — a lifetime achievement award for a specific piece of work, which can be awarded to a writer, performer, director or institution — and the Charles Wintour Award for most promising playwright. The latter also comes with a financial prize to support the work of the winner and the playwrights short-listed.
