AUTUMN OF LOVE: Christy Turlington Burns has taken a Marie Antoinette-ish turn for the autumn-winter cover of Love, which has been shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and hits newsstands on Monday.

The model and campaigner for maternal health wears a rubber dress by Giles, rings by van Lamsweerde and Matadin, and stockings by Wolford, in a shoot styled by Love’s fashion director, Panos Yiapanis.

Her hair, by James Pecis, is white and wild and she’s decked in bows and frills. Makeup is by Dick Page, and the cover line reads: American Girl, Christy Turlington.

“Panos and I wanted to take [Turlington’s] magnificent beauty and completely cover her up, smothering her in clothing,” said Love’s editor-in-chief Katie Grand. “Panos’ great talent is to take models and transform them, and he certainly did in his sitting with Inez and Vinoodh.”

The latest issue of Love, a twice-yearly title, focuses on “obsessive desire and fashion as a seasonal parade of fetish objects,” according to Grand. A red-lipped Manon Leloup cuddles up to men who’ve been mummified in Latex; Niki Trefilova and Jean Campbell, dressed in Manish Arora, bounce around rooms that are covered in plastic sheeting, while Cara Delevingne surrenders to a sea of sweets and Snoopy toys.

There are also shoots by David Sims, Mario Sorrenti, van Lamsweerde and Matadin, Juergen Teller, Tim Walker and Jamie Hawkesworth. Models are a mix of veterans — Kate Moss, Edie Campbell and Raquel Zimmermann — as well as newcomers including Binx Walton, Matilda Lowther and Mica Arganaraz.
