OUT AT AD: Architectural Digest ousted on Thursday Sarah Medford as executive editor, a position that made her, in effect, Margaret Russell’s number two and that she’d held for nearly two years.
Sources said the move was not voluntary but could not elaborate on the circumstances behind her exit.
Architectural Digest confirmed Medford was no longer with the magazine but would not “comment on personnel matters,” a spokeswoman said.
Medford was pushed out on the same day a corporate restructuring at Condé Nast required all magazines to shave 10 percent off their budgets through the rest of the year.
But a source said the two developments are not related.
The move was surprising because Medford was one of Russell’s first appointments after she was installed as editor in chief. Medford came from Town & Country in November 2010.
AD named Stephen Wallis, formerly the features editor, as Medford’s replacement. In addition, Michael Mraz, a former managing editor at Men’s Vogue, was appointed online features editor, and Julie Coe, formerly of Departures, is the new articles editor.
