MILLER TIME: In the art-imitates-life department, The American Reader and the Robert Miller gallery have teamed up to host a piano and text recital Monday night. Robert Coover will be on hand to read sections of his short story “The Goldilocks Variations,” which draws from Bach’s “Goldberg Variations” and appears in this month’s issue of the literary magazine. Guests will get an earful as Coover’s words will be read in accompaniment with the respective musical “companions.” The tunes will be played on one original piece of art — Yayoi Kusama’s 1971 “Painted player piano and piano bench.”

Arielle Patrick, who helped Uzoamaka Maduka and Jac Mullen launch TAR, had an eureka moment after spotting the red piano at the Robert Miller Gallery. Betsy Wittenborn-Miller (who owns the space) and Diana Burroughs liked the sounds of it, as did Maduka, so a plan was put in motion. After the party for 200, Coover will be the guest of honor at a dinner for 30 at Miller’s Near and Far.
