ALL-STAR DEBUT: “Project Runway All Stars,” which premiered Thursday night on Lifetime, averaged 1.9 million viewers, according to Nielsen. The cast features judges Isaac Mizrahi, Georgina Chapman, Angela Lindvall (host), guest judge Neiman Marcus’ Ken Downing and Marie Claire editor in chief Joanna Coles as mentor. In comparison, the ninth season of “Project Runway” averaged 2.9 million total viewers on Lifetime TV. Both shows are produced by The Weinstein Co.
Asked if she was pleased with the debut of “Project Runway All Stars,” Meryl Poster, president of TV at Weinstein replied, “Yes, big-time.”
“All Stars,” which aired at 9 p.m., follows the same premise as “Project Runway,” and serves up contestants who had previously gone far in the original series but didn’t win the grand prize. In the opening episode, 13 designers were given $100 to buy anything they wanted at a 99-cent store and had to design an outfit. Elisa Jimenez, who came in 10th place during her original season of “Project Runway,” was the first one voted off with her HotPants look.
