ALL IN THE DETAILS: Details editor in chief Dan Peres came to SoHo House West Hollywood last week to toast its Hollywood Mavericks issue for December-January, partying with celebs who are influencers in front of and behind the camera, including Lake Bell, Chris Colfer, John Krasinski, Chris Messina, Lauren Miller, Josh Radnor and Zachary Quinto. Peres revealed that the Mavericks issue, of which there have been five during his 12-year tenure, has been expanded into a three-tentpole concept with dedicated issues for Hollywood (December-January), Social Media (April) and Culture (October). Next year will be the first full calendar year featuring all three issues, presumably with parties to celebrate them. “Our party had celebrities, but they weren’t there just for the sake of having celebrities in the room. The greatest compliment that I got was that it was a great mix of not all obvious people,” he said.
As far as covers, celebrity still sells, but a smaller circulation book like Details, which is getting a rate-base increase to 475,000 up from 450,000 with its February issue, can take slightly bigger risks. Actor Garrett Hedlund will appear on the February cover for his art house film “On the Road” costarring Kristen Stewart. “He represents the brand but our readers don’t know him the same way they know Brad Pitt,” said Peres.
In other Details news, the magazine is making three new hires: senior editor James Gaddy (former managing editor at Surface); entertainment editor Nojan Aminosharei (former associate editor at Elle), and associate Web editor Perrin Drumm (former contributor for Cool Hunting, Interview and V Man).
