TRUE GRIT: Kris Van Assche is the latest designer to segue into moving pictures. Dior Homme’s creative director tapped photographer Willy Vanderperre to create a gritty “alternative” video showcasing the spring/summer collection on model Victor Nylander, who writhes on a discarded strip of carpet in a suit and raw-edged tunic.
Employing moody lighting — spliced with sunnier flashes of skateboards and street lamps — the video is meant to accentuate Van Assche’s fascination with deconstructed cuts, minimalism and haute finishes and fabrics. The 55-second video, titled “The Time I Had Some Time Alone,” is to debut Monday on DiorHomme.com.
Eight stills from the video will also be used for print ads in edgy magazines, in addition to the main fashion campaign shot by Karl Lagerfeld and featuring model Baptiste Giabiconi. Van Assche plans to increasingly tailor make communications to each media or title.
