Robin Givhan to Contribute to FashionBeast

The Daily Beast is launching a new fashion blog that will replace the site's fashion vertical.

A PLACE TO WRITE: Robin Givhan missed the regular check-ins. When she was at The Washington Post, she would often take to her blog to write about events that weren’t runway-specific or related to a store visit. “Things that popped up that needed to be acknowledged,” she said. “Brief little thought pieces.”

Now Givhan, who joined The Daily Beast and Newsweek company nearly two years ago, is going to have that, becoming one of the contributors to a new blog, FashionBeast. “You’ve got stuff that comes over the transom and it’s interesting and you want to have a place for it,” she said.

The Daily Beast has a fashion vertical that consists of aggregated content and slide shows — “The 10 Most Expensive Sweatpants,” for instance. Reported features and items, beside those that are in the print edition, are more infrequent.

The blog, which will still rely on aggregated content and video, will replace the vertical and will be updated several times a day with short items and commentary by Givhan, staff writer Isabel Wilkinson and other contributors still to be determined. It will launch July 25.

The blog’s format is similar to New York magazine’s The Cut, whose bloggers update it regularly with quick posts.

Incidentally, The Cut is moving away from the focus on fashion to cover women’s stories more broadly.
