A PARTY APPETITE: The party invitations have started to roll in for the night shift at New York Fashion Week and it appears the festivities will kick into high gear on Wednesday when Jay Fielden will mark his first anniversary with Town & Country at Bill’s, the new John DeLucie restaurant. The next day, Vogue will throw its annual Fashion’s Night Out extravaganza. On Saturday night, W magazine will cohost a screening of “Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel” at MoMA, followed by dinner at the Monkey Bar. Editor in chief Stefano Tonchi will host another party later in the week to celebrate the “Generation W Issue.” Glamour is having its annual fashion week party on Wednesday at The Box with a performance by the Joy Formidable. Elle’s Fashion Next, an event that introduces up-and-coming designers, will take place at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center on Friday. On the last day of New York Fashion Week, InStyle’s managing editor Ariel Foxman and publisher Connie Anne Phillips will host a runway roundup at the Gordon Ramsay at The London. Foxman will discuss runway trends with stylist Brad Goreski.
It would be expected that fashion magazines would throw parties during fashion week. But this season there’s a major interloper: Bon Appétit. Editor in chief Adam Rapoport is taking on the fashion magazine heavyweights with three “Feast or Fashion” dinner parties that will be held throughout the week. The title will host one for Rachel Roy at NoMad on Sept. 9, a house party to celebrate Chris Benz’s 30th birthday on Sept. 10 and a dinner on Sept. 13 for Michael Bastian at Perry Street prepared by Jean Georges.
Rapoport, formerly of GQ, has been working hard to incorporate more fashion into the pages of his magazine (A.P.C. designer Jean Touitou, Michael Kors, the Missoni family, Billy Reid and Elettra Wiedemann have all been featured in the title since he joined). “There is this misconception that fashion people don’t eat,” said Rapoport. “But this is a group that has access to the best restaurants in the world and after shows people are going out to dinner. I think there is an inherent connection.”
And if they eat, so do they live, which is perhaps why Architectural Digest is releasing its annual fashion issue, with Valentino on the cover, around the time of New York Fashion Week. Inside, the title has stories on Steven Meisel’s Los Angeles, Robert Duffy’s place in New York and Carla Fendi’s home in Rome.
