Scene Magazine Gets a Makeover for First Anniversary

The revamped magazine has a larger trim size, a new cover logo, redesigned inside layouts and thicker, more matte paper stock.

A NEW SCENE: Scene magazine is getting a makeover for its March issue, out Friday, which marks its one-year anniversary. The revamped magazine has a larger trim size, a new cover logo, redesigned inside layouts and thicker, more matte paper stock. The new trim size increases to 10 by 12 inches, up from 8.125 by 10.75 inches, and the new title logo is in the Futura family, an update from the former customized Helvetica.


“We are going bigger and less glossy, because everything else is so glossy. And the new logo is a little more refined,” said Peter Davis, editor in chief of the monthly title, which has a controlled circulation of 40,000 and is distributed by Observer Media Group to high-income homes in Manhattan.


Davis didn’t look far from home for his March cover subject, booking his sister, designer Minnie Mortimer, who sells her own women’s wear label and designs capsule lines for Boast and Three Dots. Upcoming Scene covers will include new “Fashion Star” television host Louise Roe in April, designer Thom Browne in May and Moda Operandi’s Taylor Tomasi Hill in June.


In April, Scene will introduce a “modern manners” advice column from Annelise Peterson, a former publicist at Valentino, Calvin Klein and Alberta Ferreti who now runs her own fashion consulting firm. The magazine is planning a party to launch the column, titled “Ask Annelise,” to garner questions from guests.
