A CHAT WITH ANGELINA: After the fawning red-carpet interviews and the press junkets are over, Hollywood actors and directors have been known to sneak into a local theater the day their movies open, to see how the general public will react. This will not be the case for Angelina Jolie when her directorial debut, “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” is released nationwide on Dec. 23. “I think I was one of the few directors, when they first screened the movie, who didn’t actually see it,” said Jolie, minutes before a Marie Claire event at Hearst Tower on Tuesday night. “I stayed home and turned off my phone. There are a lot of films I’ve done that I haven’t seen. With this [her new film] I just asked the cast if they were alright after [the premiere on Monday]. There is no greater judge than the people who lived through this war.”

Following the screening at Hearst, Joanna Coles, editor in chief of Marie Claire, held a question-and-answer session with the entire cast, including Jolie, who was moved to tears at times, when a few people in the audience told her about their experiences of living through the war. “I have met so many people post-conflict and it has broken my heart to see what war does and how it leaves people in pieces,” said Jolie. “You’ll sit through two hours [for the film]. They lived this for over three years.”
