NEW YORK — Last year was the year of online shopping — and WWD Summits is holding its first digital forum of 2012 on Jan. 25 at the Asia Society and Museum here to analyze just that.

There was immense growth in e-commerce and m-commerce as well as new addition Facebook commerce, or F-commerce — 15 percent year-on-year category wide. The increase was due in part to the recent holiday season, as well as to brands and retailers bolstering their digital strategies and consumers shopping on the go.

ComScore reported earlier this week that 2011 saw 10 Internet shopping days that surpassed the $1 billion mark — bringing total e-commerce spending for November and December to $37.2 billion. Behind Cyber Monday, which took in $1.25 billion in sales, and the first Monday of December, which took in $1.17 billion, the third heaviest day for online spending was Dec. 12, or Green Monday. In comparison, 2010 had just one day of Internet buying activity that surpassed the $1 billion mark.

This will be WWD’s seventh forum to address the latest in the digital sphere, and a number of industry experts — hailing from brands and digital agencies such as Bluefly, Iconix Brand Group, Saks Fifth Avenue, 8thBridge, Kate Spade, Lacoste and Oscar de la Renta — will give their takes on the growth in the sector.

Topics to be covered include monetizing one’s social community through social commerce, adapting strategies for a mobile marketplace, leveraging strengths on various social platforms to fuel sales and global e-commerce.

MasterCard’s Michael McNamara and Andy Mantis will showcase e-commerce performance from the holiday season, and Kyle Andrew and Marissa Kraxberger of Kate Spade — voted one of the most “social” shopping brands by digital think tanks such Luxury Lab, or L2, and social commerce solution 8thBridge — will discuss the brand’s most recent social media-centric holiday campaign. Denise Incandela, president of saks.com and Saks Fifth Avenue’s chief marketing officer, will discuss lessons learned the past year with respect to the online marketplace and the digital growth levers she believes will be key in 2012.

Social commerce remains a hot topic of interest going into 2012, and Oscar de la Renta chief executive officer Alex Bolen and senior vice president of communications Erika Bearman, or OscarPrGirl, will co-present a discussion about the company’s ever-evolving digital efforts, with an emphasis on its recent F-commerce initiatives. Additionally, Wade Gerten and Jon Kubo, 8thBridge’s ceo and chief product officer (who worked with the brand on its Facebook shopping experiences), respectively, will talk about the state of social commerce today. Gerten will also discuss what the next six months of social commerce might bring, and Kubo — along with Iconix Brand Group’s Aleesha Smalls-Worthington — will host a panel focused on social commerce IQ and how brands can raise theirs.
