ANALYZING ALIBABA’S U.S. PUSH: Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.’s move to launch a new e-commerce site in the U.S. via two of its subsidiaries is likely motivated by the Chinese e-commerce giant’s plan to stage an initial public offering sometime this year, analysts said.

ICAHN VS. EBAY: Activist investor Carl Icahn went tit for tat with eBay Inc. after the activist investor ramped up his battle with the e-commerce giant, firing off an open letter to stockholders that alleged “multiple lapses in corporate governance.” EBay fired back that “Carl Icahn has cherry-picked old news clips and anecdotes out of context to attack the integrity of two of the most respected, accomplished and value-driven technology leaders in Silicon Valley.”

SJP SHOE LINE GETS SOCIAL MEDIA PUSH: Sarah Jessica Parker is entering what is for her the unfamiliar territory of the World Wide Web to promote her new footwear line, SJP Collection, which launched exclusively at Nordstrom. The collection is supported by a multitiered marketing push based around a Pinterest campaign — “A Day in Her Shoes, SJP: Wear to Go.”

PEPE’S LIKES: Four free shirts helped Pepe Jeans lead the fashion pack in new Facebook likes last month, according to the latest rankings from digital marketing firm Stylophane. Pepe garnered an additional 396,862 thumbs-up for January, giving the brand 2.3 million likes on the social media platform, an increase of 20.8 percent from December.

AERIN FRAGRANCE COLLECTION LAUNCHING MICROSITE:
Aerinfragrance.com is set to go live in North America and the U.K. on Monday. In addition to information about the fragrance collection — which comprises Gardenia Rattan, Amber Musk, Lilac Path, Ikat Jasmine and Evening Rose — the site offers details about the notes in each fragrance and what they bring to the juice.

ALEXANDER LEWIS TO LAUNCH FALL COLLECTION DIGITALLY:
The London-based, Brazilian-American designer Alexander Lewis launched his first main season collection for fall 2014, via KCD’s online show portal, digitalfashionshows.com, with a film showcasing the collection.

HEADING UP TIME’S DIGITAL PUSH: Time Inc. found a new digital guru, following the recent departures of two high-level digital executives. In advance of its spin-off from Time Warner, the publishing company tapped M. Scott Havens as senior vice president of digital.
