NARS’ NEW SOCIAL MEDIA MASCOT: Makeup master François Nars’ French bulldog of 14 years, Marcel, has become the beauty brand’s mascot, and today the pup answered questions live on Twitter on Facebook that were submitted by fans over the past week (with the hashtag #MarcelNars on Twitter). Questions ranged from general application tips, skincare advice, application and which colors to wear, but one product the canine swears by is the brand’s new PRO-PRIME collection. WWD sat down with Marcel to get the latest on his whirlwind promotional tour, his favorite people to follow on Twitter and which social medium he prefers.
WWD: What made you want to connect with your NARS fans right now?
Marcel: Since the launch of the PRO-PRIME campaign, my travel schedule has been so hectic! I love Facebook and Twitter, so I thought, ‘why not?!’ Then I could speak to as many NARS fans as possible. I am the face of the collection – which includes Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base and Skin Smoothing Face Prep – and so people always ask me about achieving a flawless complexion and some questions on François Nars, bien sur.
WWD: How has life been since your PRO-PRIME campaign came out?
Marcel: A lot of travel. Let me tell you, I’ve been around the world and back. But it’s all in a day’s work.
WWD: Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter?
Marcel: Besides @NARSissist? Well, Thakoon’s dog Steve and I have been chummy for years, so definitely @ThakoonNY. I’m redecorating my doghouse, so I’ve been following @NateBerkus for design inspiration. And of course @PEOPLEPets because I love to know what’s going on with my fellow celebrity dogs.
WWD: What is your preferred social medium? Twitter? Facebook? Blogging? Foursquare, etc?
Marcel: I definitely prefer Twitter. Some people find 140 characters limiting, but you have to admit- it takes a seriously intelligent pooch to give good skincare tips in 140 characters or less...
WWD: IPhone or BlackBerry?
Marcel: Definitely the new iPhone… I love to be able to video conference with my friends around the world.
WWD: What is next for you?
Marcel: I have a lot up my paw including shooting the NARS Holiday card… And I’ve always wanted to be the face of the seasonal campaigns, I keep pushing… François my friend… I’m ready for my close up!
