BANANA REPUBLIC’S YOUNG TURK: The ad campaign for the Banana Republic Trina Turk collection bowing on June 7 has a gentle, retro feel. The capsule collection features 60 items such as dresses, shorts, accessories, sunglasses, swimsuits and towels in her vibrant signature bold patterns. The campaign was photographed at the Richard Neutra-designed Kaufmann House in Palm Springs and if the ghost of Slim Aarons comes to mind, it’s no accident. “The Slim Aarons photo of ladies having drinks at the pool has been an inspiration for our brand,” said Turk. Banana Republic model Coco Rocha struck sophisticated yet playful poses as she lounged on a chaise in a long dress in shades of reds and yellows. In another shot, she’s perched on her knees wearing a white jacket and flower print shorts, the Kaufmann pool and mountains behind her.
Prior to the collection’s launch in stores, Gilt Group will offer a presale of the items at full price. Banana Republic stores will host launch parties across the country on June 7. Turk said she’ll be at Banana Republic’s San Francisco flagship on Grant Avenue. Simon Kneen, Banana Republic creative director, said the ad campaign will be featured in print, online, direct mail and in store windows. “It’s been a real pleasure to work with Trina,” he said. “We’re open to working together in the future. We’re looking for things that are unique to us.”
