The show, which ran from Sunday to Tuesday at the New Yorker Hotel here, attracted about 1,700 buyers, matching last year, said Nouveau Collection producer Joanne Feinstein. There were 140 labels, including Bkg & Company, Cartise, Surrealist/Free Lunch, Fresh Tea, Iridium Apparel, Krista Lee, Mycra Pac, Nicola Berti, Sacred Threads, Trimdin, Winding River and Zoe Designs. Many lines were selling spring merchandise for immediate delivery, as well as showing summer.
For the March show, Nouveau Collective will change its locale to the Park Central New York here, Feinstein said
Lightweight outerwear seems to be a must-have item for spring, although dresses were plentiful. The jacket appears to be an essential piece to any spring wardrobe, whether a supple leather blazer from Nicola Berti, a pearlized slicker with a patent finish from Mycra Pac or a white cotton jacket with embroidered flowers by new label and first time exhibitor Krista Lee.
Winding River and Trimdin offered a multitude of colorful spring outerwear in reversible cottons and chenille satin blends, wholesaling from $60 to $89. For three-year-old Winding River, in the midst of its most successful season, the top colors for spring among buyers were seafoam green and aqua, said co-owner Maria Reisman. As for the Trimdin collection, in its first year, Reisman said the line is more urban, sophisticated and fitted. Although pastel colors sold well for the newer line, a reversible cotton jacket in a black-and-white and coral print, wholesaling for $89, was the bestseller. The collections are available at stores such as Saratoga Clothes Horse in Saratoga, N.Y., Purple Plume in Lenox, Mass., and The Tag Shop in Lancaster, Pa.
"Winding River and Trimdin were phenomenal finds,'' said Barry Klein, co-owner of The Tag Shop. "It was exactly what we needed to bolster our image and inventory. They have a geometric feel to them, but there was also one long jacket that we ordered that had an Asian flavor. By and large, most of the jackets had geometric patterns and we elected to order bright pastel colors for spring with cream and tan backgrounds."
