Parish Foods & Goods

ATLANTA — Few U.S. cities command a cultural presence quite like New Orleans, and local restaurant group Concentrics aims to breathe some of that Crescent City magic into Atlanta's dining scene with the opening of Parish Foods & Goods.

Located in the Inman Park neighborhood east of Downtown, Parish restaurant (and the adjoining Parish Market and Parish To-Go) are housed in the only remaining structure from the Atlanta Pipe and Foundry Company, constructed around 1890. Details such as the original tin roof, concrete floors and copper pipes give the space a decidedly rustic feel.

Cajun and Creole cuisine dominate chef Timothy McGee's menu, which comprises sustainable ingredients sourced from local farmers. For dinner, try the Parish pork feast of smoked and roasted spice-rubbed pork shoulder with a dozen oysters and Bibb lettuce leaves for wrapping. Weekend brunch diners — who can also take in live jazz piano — should opt for the open-faced shrimp burger or the pork grillades with green tomato tempura and crawfish béchamel. All dishes cost less than $20.

For those who wish to linger, the Market area downstairs is ideal, with free Wi-Fi, a pet-friendly patio and assorted fresh juices and organic breads and pastries. The retail area is stocked with fresh flowers, premium cheeses and homemade ice cream.

Parish To-Go offers breakfast or lunch options for takeout, such as muffuletta, Brie grilled cheese and a fried green tomato BLT.

Don't ask for a menu, though. Servers recite the daily offerings in order to reduce waste.
