Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis and Lee Radziwill

There are undoubtedly many sacrifices people will have to make in the coming fiscally challenged months. Bergdorf Goodman is hoping gourmet goodies isn’t one of them. So it was appropriate, then, that Monday evening the retailer and Bob Colacello feted a “premier epicurean collection,” created by Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis. Granted, gourmet chocolates and buttery cookies emblazoned with Gs may not be the staff of life, but that certainly didn’t stop the likes of Lee Radziwill, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Agnes Gund and Bettina Zilkha from sampling piles of scones and miniature, crustless sandwiches. “It was all about the idea of castle tea, and what do you eat at tea? You have scones and chocolates and tea,” explained von Thurn und Taxis of the concept behind her line — one she fully embraces as she never skips a tea-time meal (perhaps because her family has a palace, St. Emmeram). “Sometimes it’s just a quick biscuit. I only have a platter when I have servants,” she continued. Clearly she has no qualms about assuming the latter duties herself: The gracious hostess spent the entire party hustling tray upon tray of her goods on empty-handed guests.
