Rosanna and Patricia Arquette at Rosetta Getty's Birthday

Rosetta Getty wasn’t going to let any marital drama get her down on Saturday night, as she threw a joint birthday party for herself and three pals at her hilltop home in Los Angeles that lasted until 3 a.m. “It got very young and very loud,” she said the next day, after two hours of sleep.

But it all started off in a civilized manner, with Liv Tyler, Eva Mendes, Selma Blair and Rosanna and Patricia Arquette arriving early and settling in beneath a Moroccan-style tent on the front lawn that overlooks the city. As Vanessa Getty, Shiva Rose and new beau Robb Derringer, Justin Long, Jake Hoffman, Matthew Rhys and David Annable (the latter two are co-stars of Getty’s estranged husband Balthazar in the TV drama “Brothers and Sisters”) arrived, guests grabbed snacks from an In-N-Out Burger truck parked in the driveway. Even when the cops showed up at midnight after neighbors complained of the noise, it didn’t put a damper on festivities — let alone deter party-seekers like Mischa Barton, who had her younger sister, Hania, in tow with several friends. “Is this your house?” Barton cluelessly asked the birthday girl.

She wasn’t the only one in L.A. who was a little fuzzy on the facts. The next night, at the Hammer Museum’s Gucci-sponsored Gala in the Garden, one of the evening’s honorees, Frank Gehry, mistakenly called event co-chair Tobey Maguire “Batman” instead of “Spider-Man,” the franchise for which he is famous. “I’ve had a lot of wine with my dinner,” Gehry said, by way of an excuse.

Ben Stiller, on the other hand, wasn’t nearly as loose when he took the stage to present an award to big-deal artist Catherine Opie. “It’s intimidating to be an actor in an art crowd,” he said. “It was somewhere at the intersection of cool and prestigious and intelligent and meaningful that the panic kicked in.”
