The hostess, who is at work on her second cookbook, donned a body-skimming strapless Derek Lam number for the party. “I literally starved myself to get into this,” she said. “Later I’m going to give it to Kelly Ripa. Who it’ll be too big for.” (After lunch, Ripa tugged on Seinfeld’s hem and demanded, “Take it off. You promised me.”)
Meanwhile, Jerry Seinfeld appeared completely at ease at the girls-only affair. He partook in the family-style meal, but left the shopping to the pros.
“You could get a bag and make it a ‘man bag,’” his friend Ali Wentworth offered.
“It’s European,” Seinfeld joked, quoting his own sitcom. “Remember that episode?”
The following day, Oscar de la Renta held his eighth annual benefit for the League to Save Lake Tahoe. The designer flew in from New York for the Saks-sponsored affair at the Fritz family’s waterfront estate.
A record 650 guests, including socialite Angelique Griepp, Google vice president Marissa Mayer and interior designer Jean Larette, sipped Champagne and bid on Verdura and Cartier auction items. “I have to admit, it is hard for the fashions to compete with the beauty of Lake Tahoe,” said de la Renta.
The designer and son-in-law Alex Bolen had spent the previous night at Dolph and Emmy Andrews’ mansion, where Bolen had risen at 6:30 a.m. for a brisk water-skiing session with the Andrews’ boys. “I was still on New York time,” he said.
