“I would have loved to have been a musician, either a pianist or a flautist, but I am only a designer,” Pierre Cardin reflected Wednesday night after Bernard Arnault’s wife, Helen Mercier, played piano to a celeb-filled audience at the Hôtel Marcel Dassault. Still, the indefatigable Cardin still loves to mix the two worlds and said he’s mulling hosting a fashion show at his annual Lacoste music festival in the South of France.

The fund-raiser for France’s cardiovascular research foundation was attended by the likes of Dior chief Sidney Toledano, Peter Marino and the Arnault clan. Decked out in black Dior, Delphine Arnault also paused for musical thought. “I used take lessons when I was little, but not anymore,” she said.

Not so Toledano: “I taught myself how to play the guitar,” he said, adding he had a penchant for Brazilian samba.

Marino, meanwhile, said he’s sticking to architecture and is working on a sprawling new flagship for Louis Vuitton in London, which could rival Vuitton’s Champs-Elysées flagship and stir up some age-old Anglo-French competition. “I’m a New Yorker. What do I care?” he said.
