CANNES, France — Everyone who’s anyone in Cannes is doing a film, including singer Ne-Yo, who performed a set at the Nikki Beach nightclub in the wee hours Friday morning. The crooner revealed he was at the festival on a break from shooting “Red Tails” in Prague, with co-star Cuba Gooding Jr. The movie pays homage to the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African-American fighter pilots who fought during World War II.

Earlier on Thursday night, Variety celebrated its newest “Billion Dollar Producers,” Luc Besson and Pierre-Ange Le Pogam. As a storm raged outside the Terrazza Martini tent, a relaxed Besson explained that fashion is an essential part of any filmmaker’s toolbox. “There’s the script, the dialogue, the actor, the music and the costumes — if you take away any one of those elements it’s like removing a wheel from a car,” he said, adding that Jean Paul Gaultier’s futurist costumes for “The Fifth Element” were perhaps the most spectacular of all his films.

Meanwhile, Vincent Gallo, never one to bother with simple things like logic, opted to wear sunglasses to his rainy, nighttime premiere across the street. The hirsute actor cruised in to catch his own star turn in Francis Ford Coppola’s “Tetro” in a pair of Fendi shades and a gray tux by the Italian house.

Luckily, the weather cleared up for Nikki Beach Lifestyle’s fashion show Friday afternoon, just in time for a gaggle of models to pull up in a yacht before strutting down the pier in a variety of looks from its new men’s and women’s resort line Endless Summer. One pair of men’s linen pants even features a waterproof pocket to protect cash in the event of spilled Champagne — perfect to wear on the Croisette.
