Silicon Valley met Seventh Avenue on Wednesday night when Google’s Marissa Mayer, Diane von Furstenberg and Anna Wintour hosted cocktails to honor the 2009 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalists. As guests like Vera Wang, Georgina Chapman, Amanda Brooks, Lauren duPont, Marina Rust, Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai crowded into Wintour’s home, the 10 finalists — Sophie Theallet, House of Waris, Ohne Titel, Wayne, Esquivel Shoes, Monique Péan, Gary Graham, Spurr, Patrik Ervell and Alabama Chanin — showed off designs inspired by Google. And the looks were as varied as a list of search engine results, from Wayne Lee’s neoprene computer vest equipped to sleekly accommodate a 15-inch laptop to Waris Ahluwalia’s diamond-studded magnifying glass necklace (the most ancient of search tools), sported by his date, Rose Byrne.

Kemp Muhl, joined by boyfriend Sean Lennon, was particularly happy with George Esquivel’s take.“I’m the only girl here in flats,” she enthused, pointing to his “Google shoes,” colorful creations whose back tags were in the shape of a search box containing the word “shoe.”

Naturally, most of the designers were already well familiar with the technological program. “I actually googled [how] to get here,” laughed Ohne Titel’s Alexa Adams. It seemed even Mayer herself would be putting the search engine to good use. “I have not Googled anyone here,” she said, pausing, “But I will later tonight.”
