The new world order has not featured massive parties with boatloads of celebrities and scores of paparazzi. But since Bottega Veneta’s brand has always been about subtle luxury, the affair it threw with Bergdorf Goodman on Tuesday was right in step with the social climate.

The store’s seventh floor was stocked with well-behaved Upper East Side socials and Italian fashion editors who congratulated Bottega creative director Tomas Maier on the installations of clothing, home and accessories throughout the store. “It’s been a crazy time. I have all these projects going on,” Maier said. “But New York has tons of energy. It’s always great to run into people here that you haven’t met elsewhere.”

Julianne Moore, who cohosted the evening with Bergdorf’s Jim Gold, was having her own experience with strangers, as multiple guests asked her to take photos with them and then complimented her on her parenting skills. (However out of place it seemed, the actress behaved graciously.)

Afterward, an intimate group including Mamie Gummer, Arlenis Sosa, Rosario Dawson, Serena Boardman, Todd Meister, Carey Lowell and photographers Tina Barney and Stephen Shore dined at La Grenouille.

There, just before the three-course feast, Martha Stewart gave the evening her stamp of approval. “I think this is a nice way to entertain and keep it a little bit more low-key,” she said.
