Clarks To Bow New York Flagship

The shoe retailer is set to open its Soho location.

Clarks, Newton Upper Falls, Mass., is readying to unveil its U.S. flagship in New York's trendy Soho neighborhood. The 3,400-sq.-ft. space, located at 547 Broadway, will be housed in a 120-year-old building complete with period features such as loft windows, exposed-brick walks and wood flooring.

The store, the third in New York, and one of 206 full-price stores in the U.S., is the first of its kind and will include a wide range of core as well as exclusive product. "We're thrilled to bring the most stylized Clarks retail store in the country right into the shopping mecca of New York City," said Geralyn Breig, president of Clarks Americas, in a company statement. "Clarks Soho will bring fashionable British flair stateside to the brand's American retail experience in a way we've never done before and enables Clarks to highlight what truly sets the brand apart in an integral consumer hub."

The Soho location will also be a platform for designer collaborations and the first to receive exclusive styles. Among the fall '14 collaborations are the women's Orla Kiely collection featuring product by the London-based designer and men's styles from legendary British motorcycle manufacturer, Norton Motorcycle Co.

According to Christopher Scinto, SVP of marketing for Clarks Americas, the store's design reflects the heritage of the nearly 200-year-old brand and was created by an in-house design team. "It is an evolved design," he said. "[It's] slightly more modern with references to the [integrity] of the brand." Featured in the store will be archive images that evoke an overall feeling of craftmanship, he said.

Unique to the Soho location is a shop-in-shop showcasing the brand's iconic Originals product, such as the Wallabee and Desert Boot. The space can be accessed through the main store as well as through its own entrance on Mercer Street, which runs parallel to the high-profile thoroughfare.

The store will house one of the most extensive offerings of Originals product in the U.S., said Scinto. "There will be over 40 exclusive styles/colorways unlike any other store in the Clarks retail portfolio," he said. Among the collaborative Desert Boot product is Clarks' partnership with Herschel Supply Co., a Canada-based purveyor of bags and travel goods.
