André Leon Talley helped celebrate Zappos Couture’s rebirth last week in Sin City.
The fashion personality, who joined as artistic director of the e-tailer’s couture division when it relaunched in January, gave an exclusive talk for 300 company members, including CEO Tony Hsieh, at The Smith Center for Performing Arts in Las Vegas.
“The Zappos campus has been buzzing for months, anticipating André’s arrival. It’s not every day that you have a living legend of the international fashion world hanging out at your office,” said Jennifer Sidary, head of Zappos Couture.
“The part when André talked about his love for capes obviously had a major impact, based on Tony Hsieh’s choice of wardrobe to the evening party,” added Sidary, referencing the cape that Hsieh wore to the event.
The event also featured displays of campaign images from Talley’s work with magazine Numeró Russia. The images were part of a silent auction that benefited Dress for Success Southern Nevada, a nonprofit that provides career tools and professional attire for women in need.
"The event was representative of the growing arts and cultural movement of downtown Las Vegas,” said Melissa Costa, head of marketing at Zappos Couture. “Everything from The Smith Center for the Performing Arts venue to the music of Phat Strad and the stunning performance by the Nevada Ballet Theatre personifies this renaissance."
