As superstorm Sandy destroyed homes and upended people’s lives, it also revealed some stunning contrasts. In New York City, where bright lights and even bigger ambitions coexist, the hurricane temporarily silenced half the city, plunging the area below 30th Street into darkness for days. And while many citizens continue to rebuild their lives in the coming months, it’s clear this city has the power to rebound as a mecca for community and commerce.
