Emma Coburn is ready to go the distance with New Balance. The 22-year-old runner, a recent graduate of the University of Colorado, is a two-time U.S. national champion and 2012 Olympic finalist in the steeplechase, the 3,000-meter obstacle race, and a top middle-distance runner. She’s also New Balance’s newest athlete: Coburn signed a multiyear endorsement deal with the Boston, Mass.-based company earlier this month. Here, she tells Footwear News her top running spot, guiltiest pleasure and how she likes to switch up her look.

Favorite long run: “I really love training in Boulder and Crested Butte, Colo., [my hometown]. One of my favorite runs is one that I’ll do on an easy day at home, a trail called the Lower Loop. There are aspen trees and a bike trail, and Crested Butte is the wildflower capital of Colorado, so it’s beautiful and serene and peaceful.”

Guilty indulgence: “I really love junk-food cereal. It’s my go-to if I need a treat. I have Lucky Charms in my pantry right now.”

The last thing I bought: “I just moved into a new house, so I bought a vacuum cleaner and a microwave.”

Fashion footwear: “I’m in running shoes so frequently, so if it’s a nice summer day, I like to wear a dress with some wedges. It’s a fun way to feel like a normal person.”

My pre-race staple: “I always eat a bagel with peanut butter and a banana before a race.”
