The Footwear Association Charity Event recently held its eighth annual fundraiser in Shanghai, raising money to be distributed to local organizations providing everything from food and medical care to cultural enrichment.
Since the group’s launch, more than $8 million has been raised, with contributions from all sectors of the shoe industry including retailers, vendors and suppliers.
Jim Issler, president and CEO of H.H. Brown and chairman of FACE, said consistency has been key to the organization’s giving. “We have shown how successful the efforts of over 120 donor companies, over a sustained period of time, can be when they work together for a common cause,” he said. “Making a difference in the lives of so many needy and underprivileged children in China is a symbol of how our industry is giving back to a population that is responsible for producing over 90 percent of the shoes purchased at retail in the U.S.”
Among the charities receiving contributions were The China Initiative, The Zhongshan Young Volunteer Association, The Shanghai Soon Ching Ling Foundation, The Two Ten Footwear Foundation and the China Welfare Fund for the Handicapped.
