It’s footwear fit for a queen. Shoe designers are getting in on the royal action with limited-edition shoes for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, which celebrates 60 years of Elizabeth II’s reign. Nicholas Kirkwood has crafted a look adorned with Swarovski crystal elements in red and white to sell at his London and New York boutiques. “I wanted to create something that is a bit of fun in celebration of a British institution, but that also looks quite striking,” Kirkwood said. As for who should wear the style, he answered, “The Queen, of course!” Designer Rupert Sanderson is also participating with a patriotic platform sandal to be sold at Selfridges, and Aruna Seth created a piece covered in 3,000 Swarovski crystals with a British flag embellishment for Harrods. “I would love to see any of our clients from the royal family wearing them,” Seth said. Hunter Boot also has its Original Brit style in two shades for the celebration, which goes into full swing in June.
