Expanding her shoe manufacturing scope to Portugal allowed Rachel Comey to experiment for spring '13. The New York-based designer infused her eponymous footwear collection with sportier looks that have woven leather uppers and bottoms in molded rubber. "It's a nice combination of playful and elegant, and I love to work with rubber," she said. "I usually manufacture in South America, where everything is very focused on handmade, which is great, but you don't really have any access to synthetics or rubber." Also for spring, Comey unveiled a Prism London sunglasses collaboration and a larger selection of handbags. And while she generally shops vintage stores and flea markets for design inspiration, she's sticking to surfing the Web these days. "I just had a second baby, so I'm so housebound that it's eBay.com and Etsy.com [for me for now]," Comey said. The designer also revealed what she likes about Wyoming, her teen crush and the one thing no new mom should ever go without.

Favorite museum:
"I like the American Museum of Natural History because it is just so beautiful in there and it's nice to think about the length of time [it covers]."

High school celebrity crush:
River Phoenix

Piece of clothing I've owned the longest:
"I probably have socks from high school, which is scary. I'm the worst pack rat, and I just like socks."

No. 1 new-mom essential: "A Diapers.com account."

Worst beauty experiment: "The perm that I got at age 14 while I had braces and was experimenting with Sun-In. It was tragic."

Last vacation: "Jackson Hole, Wyo. We stayed at a beautiful ranch, and I loved the scale of the valley to the mountains to the sky to the plains."
