Joachim Gabor, co-founder of German brand Gabor Shoes AG, died on April 6. He was 84.
Raised in a shoemaking family, Gabor and his brother, Bernhard Gabor, started their own business in 1949 outside of Hamburg. In 1952, the company set up a new facility to produce footwear on a comfort construction.
Today, the firm owns three factories in Germany, Portugal and Slovakia. The line is distributed in the U.S. market through Kanner Corp., based in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
