Obit: Doug Sproull, 62

The exec turned his firm into a large occupational footwear player.

Doug Sproull, co-founder of occupational footwear company Warson Brands, died of pancreatic cancer last month. He was 62.

Sproull founded Warson Brands in 1987 with Jim Maritz III and Jim Maritz Jr. Specializing in workboots, the company steadily expanded, eventually inking licensing agreements with Converse, Florsheim and Rockport.

Under Sproull’s stewardship, Warson also launched its own brands, which include Knapp, Iron Age and Grabbers.

Prior to starting the company, Sproull worked as VP and GM of Hy-Test Safety Shoes.
