Arnold Dunn, the former head of Intershoe, died Nov. 4 after an illness. He was 86.
Dunn began his footwear career in the 1950s in sales, according to Eli Footer, longtime friend and former co-chairman of Schwartz & Benjamin.
“He was a star in the industry,” Footer said, citing Dunn’s later role in the 1960s and ’70s as president of fashion house Marx & Newman.
“He was a power behind the Amalfi brand,” added FFANY President Joe Moore, who worked with Dunn during the former’s tenure at Bullock’s in Pasadena, Calif.
Dunn eventually went out on his own in 1979, forming Arnold Dunn Inc. The company was acquired by Brown Shoe Co. in 1984, and Dunn remained on as president.
The executive later moved on to a series of roles, including president of Dante USA, an import firm he established in 1992. Later that year, he added the role of CEO of Intershoe, stepping down in 1995, when he retired from the industry.
Dunn is survived by his wife, Deborah, son Adam and two grandchildren.
