Charlie Denson will retire as Nike brand president in January 2014, Nike Inc. said Thursday.
The Beaverton, Ore.-based firm also announced a widespread shakeup of its executive management team, saying it is part of a sharpened focus on supply chain and manufacturing capabilities.
Trevor Edwards, currently EVP of brand and category management, will succeed Denson, effective July 1, 2013. Denson will work closely with Mark Parker, president and CEO of Nike Inc., to help manage the transition.
Edwards will lead all business units, including Jordan Brand and Hurley International, and manage the brands globally. The team reporting to Edwards will be reorganized to include Nike’s wholesale, retail and e-commerce operations.
Eric Sprunk, currently EVP of merchandising and product, will become Nike’s COO, leading all manufacturing, sourcing, IT and procurement for the company. In this role, Sprunk also will continue to oversee the company’s efforts to drive innovation in the supply chain.
Jeanne Jackson, currently president of direct-to-consumer, will become president of product and merchandising, leading the strategy for creating all footwear, apparel and equipment, and steering the merchandising of product to the global marketplace.
Thomas Clarke, currently president of new business development, will become president of innovation.
Edwards, Sprunk, Jackson and Clarke will report directly to Parker.
“Charlie’s contributions to Nike are deeply significant and he’s helped build the brand around the world. I’ve worked with him for more than 30 years and I will miss him,” Parker said in a statement. “We have a thoughtful succession strategy in place and have built a highly experienced, consumer-focused executive management team with the expertise, acumen and brand knowledge required to continue to build sustainable growth for Nike Inc. for the long-term.”
