Musician Carah Faye Charnow's Good Taste

The lead singer of Shiny Toy Guns talks fashion and working with Steve Madden Music.

Carah Faye Charnow knows how to rock a crowd. The lead singer of the band Shiny Toy Guns has been performing since she was 5 years old and has played different venues across the U.S. and Europe. “When I perform, I want to be as close to the audience as I can, so I can build that camaraderie between the band and the audience,” Charnow said. “It comes from my punk rock roots.” Her band’s eclectic performance style caught the eye of Steve Madden Music, which picked the rock group to open up this summer’s annual concert series. Past performers in the annual event have included Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Melanie Fiona. “It’s an insane honor,” the singer said, adding that she wore the brand’s shoes in the video for “Somewhere to Hide.” Here, Charnow talks musical inspirations, restocking fashion staples and her dream venue.

Music icons:
“I adore larger-than-life personalities like Björk. She can just stand on stage and exude energy. She can also go psycho, which is amazing.”

Least favorite shoe trend:
“I don’t like boxy heels. I need them to be more feminine.”

Last piece of clothing I bought:

“I’m constantly having to rebuy leggings and T-shirts.”

I would love to perform at ...
“The Hollywood Bowl. Being from California, it’s always been a dream of mine.”

Comfort food:
“I love sushi.”
