‘Born This Way’;
Santa has nothing on Lady Gaga. The pop star unveiled Gaga’s Workshop at Barneys New York last night at the Madison Avenue flagship store. The 5,500-sq.-ft. space includes over-the-top art installations and various product shops. Curated by Lady Gaga, Nicola Formichetti, artist Eli Sudbrack and Barneys creative director Dennis Freedman, items ranged from candy to cosmetics to leather jackets, with shoes being a major focus. Holiday stockings inspired by Lady Gaga’s most iconic footwear, shoe-shaped cookies and a chocolate Alexander McQueen armadillo style were all for sale to benefit the singer’s Born This Way Foundation. Also unveiled last night were Barneys Gaga Workshops holiday windows. Highlights include Gaga’s Boudoir, featuring a room made entirely out of hair, and the Gaga Machine, a motorcycle in the shape of Lady Gaga’s body. The complete Gaga’s Workshop, which includes the retail shop, exclusive products, windows, and interactive website, is Barneys largest holiday project ever and will run until Jan. 2 at the flagship on Madison Avenue.
“Glee”’s resident bully, Max Adler, has a new fan base. The star said he’s getting a much warmer reception among viewers now that they know his character is struggling to come to terms with his sexuality. “Right before we found out my character is a homosexual, there were people who would shout at me on the street, ‘Stop being so mean to Kurt (played by Chris Colfer). Stop being such a jerk!,” he said at a recent launch party for the Ron White All Day Heels and Signature Collections and celebrity shoe drive. “But people [later] understood where my character was coming from, and I think it shed a light on all bullies and that there is probably a problem going on with them.” Several other notable names stopped by to drop off their autographed shoes for the event (at Nordstrom at The Grove shopping mall in Los Angeles.) Spy caught up with “Entourage” star and Tuscan chef Debi Mazar, who talked up her culinary abilities and her cooking show, “Extra Virgin,” on The Cooking Channel. “My specialty is probably one of my beef stews with wild boar,” she said. “They’re amazing. They’re like Italian Viagra.” And “Twilight” actress Tinsel Korey said that when it comes to taking sides, she sticks with her pack. When asked about her feelings toward the vampire clan, she howled. “I’m on the wolf side, so I’m not into vampires at all,” she said. “I’m all about the wolves.” Other A-list names, including Matt Damon, Celine Dion, Kevin Spacey, and AnnaLynne McCord, among others, also made their mark by donating signed shoes for the Ron White Foundation Shoe Drive.
Zappos is offering a ride for the Thanksgiving holiday. People traveling through the Massachusetts Turnpike from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Allston Brighton toll plazas can leave their coins at home. Fast Lane members will also be granted a free ride courtesy of Zappos — they will receive a credit waiving the fee as well as a message from the online retailer on their upcoming statement. Zappos members said this is all part of the “Happiness Campaign.” Sounds like holiday travels just got a little easier
