As a multitasking actor, dancer and musician, Julianne Hough wears many hats, but she’s more partial to shoes. Not only did Hough add footwear designer to her growing list of professional pursuits when she bowed her eponymous collection with Sole Society in February, but she is also this year’s spokesperson for QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale,” culminating in her gig as host for the Oct. 1 event. In addition, a style from the Julianne Hough for Sole Society collaboration will be available for purchase at the gala and on QVC. The cause is close to her heart, Hough said. “FFANY is a fantastic trade organization, and I admire the work it does, especially in the fight against breast cancer, which has touched so many lives, including my own family.” But how does she juggle so many endeavors? “I try to take everything in stride,” Hough said. “I love to create and feel lucky to have been given different opportunities to do so.” The Utah native spoke with Footwear News about the pleasures of home, a denim look that deserves a second life and the secret power of pockets.

My next vacation: “Africa [for] a safari. That’s No. 1 on my bucket list.”

My prized possessions: “My dogs. Nothing could ever take their place. They give constant love, and I love them as children. Nothing means more to me.”

Best activity to do in Utah: “Anything outdoors — skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking ...”

Tip for looking chic in red-carpet photos:
“Pockets, so your arm still looks good and skinny without having to do the awkward hand-on-hip pose.”

A bygone fashion trend I wish would make a comeback: “Overalls.”

Food philosophy: “I’ll try anything!”
