Fratelli Rossetti held the second edition of its Masters’ Hands photography exhibition at the more than 200-year-old Serbelloni Palace during Fashion Week in Milan.
The presentation, which featured works by Italian photographers Giovanni Gastel, 56, and his nephew, Guido Taroni Gastel, 23, was focused on relating tradition and innovation.
“The brand Fratelli Rossetti is a mix of these,” the younger photographer told Footwear News. “I chose to represent Italian artisans with a lot of experience in their craft.” A pastry chef, a milliner and a cobbler in the Fratelli Rossetti factory were some of his subjects. “You feel the fatigue in the hands,” he said of the image in the brand’s factory. “The work is so difficult; you need the passion and background.”
“It was a big effort,” Diego Rossetti said of the exhibition, “but we are very happy with how it turned out.”
Also in attendance was designer George Esquivel, who continues to work with Fratelli Rossetti, designing updated oxfords and loafers with oversize tassels for the brand. Esquivel said he’s particularly excited about the Fratelli Rossetti loafers currently selling at J.Crew. “It’s going great. I love [J.Crew President and Creative Director Jenna Lyons]. She’s super sharp and has an amazing team.”
