Rasheed Wallace may have retired from the NBA, but his legacy in the sneaker world lives on. As a tribute to the pro athlete’s 18 seasons in the league, which ended this past April, Nike released a limited-edition version of the Lunar Force 1, embossed with an image of Wallace’s signature turnaround jumpshot. “I always liked playing in the Air Force 1,” Wallace said of the Lunar Force’s 30-year-old predecessor, which he wore throughout his career. “It’s a true high-top, and as a highflier back in my younger days, I was always afraid of coming down and turning my ankle.” Sheed also liked the mesh panels on the side of the shoe, but not for performance reasons. “It’s really good for people with stinky feet,” he joked.
OluKai has partnered with Austin, Texas-based retailer Tyler’s to support Dam That Cancer, a fundraising event that features a 21-mile stand-up paddleboard race on Lake Austin, followed by a celebration. “Tyler’s cultural values are closely aligned with our Ohana Giveback Program, striving to make a local and meaningful impact in the community,” said Kerry Konrady, OluKai’s marketing director. The event will benefit Flatwater Foundation, a nonprofit that provides mental health services to individuals affected by cancer. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds from OluKai brand sales at Tyler’s (through July 15) will go to the foundation.
