The NBA may be in a lockout, but a few players are making the most of their time off. Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul wrapped up a four-city tour of China with the Jordan Brand last week. On their last leg of the trip in Beijing, the athletes held basketball clinics at local schools and even played a little street ball at the city’s Dondang Park. Non-basketball-related stops on the tour included a boat tour of Hangzhou’s West Lake, hanging with panda bears in Chengdu and unveiling Chinese editions of their signature sneakers at Hong Kong’s Kicks Lounge.

The Great Outdoors
Outdoor Retailer is a great place for exec spotting. In addition to show stalwarts such as Wolverine World Wide Inc.’s Blake Krueger and outdoor players including new Hi-Tec chief Ed van Wezel, some new faces were on the floor in Salt Lake City. Diane Sullivan from Brown Shoe Co. (now overseeing the American Sporting Goods brands Nevados, Ryka and Avia) made the rounds and spent some time in the Keen booth chatting with CEO James Curleigh. Off the floor, Spy ran into Puma NA prez Jay Piccola in the Marriott lobby after he spent an afternoon touring the show as a guest. Look for Puma on the show floor next year, the exec said. And while he remained mum on details, Piccola did point out that the brand has a sailing line (which it recently announced would be worn by the Oracle Racing team as it defends its America’s Cup victory).
